Rainharvesting Systems Ltd. provided the rainwater harvesting system in this education centre for the RSPB at Rainham Marshes in Essex. The very imaginatively designed building of concrete and timber cladding, incorporates several ecological features including ground source heat extraction, solar thermal water heating, sheeps wool insulation and rainwater harvested from the roof providing water to flush the toilets.
The Centre has achieved BREEAM Excellent certification and its environmental design features, such as a ground source heat exchange pump, photovoltaic cells and a rainwater harvesting tank. This embodies the client’s commitment to sustainable development, while also creating a benchmark for development in the Thames Gateway area.
The basins and other efficient plumbing fittings, equipment and controls have further reduced water consumption by 10%
